Facebook Ads – where do promoted ads appear on Marketplace?
Did you know that in 2017, 88% of revenue from Facebook Ads campaigns came from mobile devices? Compared to 2012, when mobile accounted for only 11% of total revenue, the 2022 trends seem clear for those looking to run campaigns on Facebook.
Whether it’s Google Ads or Facebook Ads, when creating an ad, you need to follow essential steps, including deciding on ad placement. Placement should be chosen based on campaign objectives and the ad format. At this stage, you’ll see two options:
Automatic Placements – your ad will be shown automatically to your target audience wherever they navigate online, using Facebook’s algorithms.
Manual Placements – here, you can manually select where your ad appears, depending on your campaign objectives.
News Feed – If you place ads in the News Feed, your target users will see them in their personal feed among posts from friends or pages they follow. Ads can appear on both desktop and mobile. One advantage of this placement is that the ad blends with other posts without disrupting the user experience.
Right Column – This placement is only available if you select desktop-only ads. Ads in the Right Column will not appear on mobile and are visually separate as paid content, making them more noticeable.
Instant Articles – Ads here are accessible only via mobile apps. When a user clicks on an article, it opens within the app, typically between paragraphs. Instant Articles is a Facebook feature designed for content creators such as news sites and bloggers.
In-Stream Video – Recommended mainly for video campaigns, where 5–15 second ads are delivered to users consuming video content on Facebook at specific times.
Feed – Ads in the Instagram feed are displayed to your target audience among posts from other users. Ads can be viewed on both desktop and mobile and are ideal for creative visual content. Note that Canvas and Slideshow ad formats are not eligible for this placement.
Stories – Ads appear at the top of the mobile device screen or on the right side if accessing Instagram via desktop. They are interleaved with stories from friends or other advertisers using the same placement.
MESSENGER
Since 2017, you can also place ads in the Messenger app. Ads appear in the user’s chat list between conversations. Advertising on Messenger expands your reach to people who regularly use the app. These ads are the same as those on Facebook or Instagram and support both single-image and carousel formats.
